Each campus of LTC Region 6 accepts financial aid from several State and Federal funding sources that include:
Federal PELL Grants are Federal funds available to eligible students attending approved programs at Louisiana Technical College. The application for Federal Student Aid must be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Federal PELL Grants are awarded on the basis of need and do not require repayment as long as the student remains in attendance, maintains at least a 2.0 or above grade point average, and makes satisfactory academic progress. For PELL eligibility, the student must have a high school diploma, GED or a demonstrated ability to benefit.
The Louisiana Go Grant is a need based award program administered by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance. The application for the Louisiana Go Grant is the FAFSA which must be completed each academic year for evaluation of renewal eligibility. To be eligible to receive the Louisiana Go Grant, the following criteria must be met: Louisiana resident as defined by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance Students must be admitted and enrolled as a certificate or degree-seeking undergraduate student at a Louisiana public or private college or university: (1) as a first time freshmen or (2) aged 25 or older and not having enrolled in a college or university in credit bearing courses for at least three years. Students may qualify for financial assistance available through your Parish Workforce Operations Department. Funds are available for tuition, books, and supplies. LEAP awards are offered by the State of Louisiana to Technical College students, as funds are available. Recipients must be PELL eligible and must meet grade requirements. The Financial Aid Officer and The Director of Student Affairs handle applications and awards. The LEAP award is not a loan.
The TOPS program is a comprehensive program of state scholarships and one of the most innovative and progressive student assistance programs in the nation. The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance determines eligibility.
Louisiana Early Start Award Opportunities for High School Students The TOPS Early Start award was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 2005 to provide an incentive for Louisiana's qualified public high school students to start early in preparing for a career in a qualifying Top Demand Occupation. Students in the 11th and 12th grades of public high schools, who meet the requirements, may qualify for a grant that will cover the cost of attending most public colleges that offer vocational training in a qualifying Top Demand Occupation. Recipients of the award will pursure occupational training at a public college while still enrolled in high school (referred to as dual enrollment), giving them an "early start" toward an occupation that is in high demand within the state.
The purpose of the STEP program is to provide opportunity for work-eligible families of Family Independence Temporary Assistance Program (FITAP) to receive job training, employment and supportive services to enable them to become self-sufficient.
Full-time preparatory programs are approved for Veterans Administration benefits. The veteran must establish his/her eligibility with the parish service office prior to entry into this school. Louisiana Department of Social Services can provided financial assistance to a person who has a physical, emotional, learning or mental disability. To establish eligibility the applicant should contact a counselor at the agency four to six months prior to entering the college. Tuition, books, supplies, transportation, and meals may be paid, depending on the needs of the individual.
Eligible recipients will be exempt from tuition and fees at the technical college. For additional information contact the Financial Aid Officer.
